PEFC – Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification

PEFC – Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification
The Programme for Endorsement Forest Certification (PEFC) is a leading global alliance of national forest certification systems. As an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization, it promotes sustainable forest management through independent third-party certification. PERAC has targeted accreditation with the Turkish Accreditation Agency. With this accreditation, we will begin issuing PEFC Supply Chain certification.
Supply Chain Companies
PEFC chain of custody certification provides independent and verified assurance that the certified forest-based material contained in a product comes from sustainably managed forests. This certification complements PEFC sustainable forest management certification, which ensures that forests are managed in accordance with stringent environmental, social, and economic requirements.

Why should you get PEFC certification?
PEFC supply chain certification allows you to demonstrate to your customers the legal and sustainable sourcing of forest products. It also provides numerous benefits, such as access to new markets and regulatory compliance, that benefit the environment, people, and your bottom line. This certification is issued by certification bodies accredited by international accreditation bodies.
Fulfill the requirements to obtain certification
To obtain PEFC chain of custody certification, you must meet certain basic requirements.
The management system outlining the procedures must comply with the PEFC International Chain of Custody standard (PEFC ST 2002). You can integrate this information into your company’s existing systems, such as ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 procedures.
You must identify, inform, and train the personnel responsible for performing tasks that will impact the implementation and maintenance of the supply chain; this includes purchasing, marketing, and sales personnel.
You will need to implement the necessary controls to verify that the supplied material is PEFC certified; the production of certified products requires the sourcing of certified materials.
Once the requirements are met, you will be required to conduct periodic reviews of your system and annual internal audits. These internal audits are performed in addition to third-party external audits.
Certification process
Once you have completed all the preparatory work and set up your chain of custody system, you are ready to apply for PEFC certification.
Audit
PERAC assesses your chain of custody system against the Chain of Custody standard and ensures that you meet all requirements. Our auditors will visit you on-site to assess your compliance.
During the audit, compliance with all requirements is reviewed. Any non-compliance is reported, and the necessary steps are taken to resolve the discrepancies.
Certificate
If PERAC determines that your chain of custody system complies with the certification requirements, it will issue you a PEFC certificate. The certificate is valid for a maximum of five years. During this period, PERAC will conduct annual surveillance audits to verify your operation’s compliance with the chain of custody requirements.
When your certificate expires, you will be required to undergo a recertification audit to renew it.
